Hi, I have an 1970 Pontiac 400. The engine is mostly stock with a Qjet carb. I noticed with the Vacuum advance disconnected the engine idles smooth, but when I hook up the vacuum advance to the dist. it idles and runs rough. I replaced the vacuum advance with a new one and problem still exists. When I hook up my vacuum advance to the metered port on the Carb my timing at idle advances from 13ish to 30+. Anyone know why? Is there a different place I should hook mine up to? Once the primaries are tuned in and the power valve size is selected, hook up the secondary linkage and run the engine at WOT again. Pressure advance does two useful things - it reduces ooze during non-extrude moves and it reduces blobbing during cornering.
